User Experience

NDS Snowflake™

NDS Snowflake is a high-end, elegant user interface that enables an entirely new model of content navigation for subscribers. The latest version of NDS Snowflake offers high definition three dimensional animation and a highly intuitive user experience that caters to the latest convergence technology. A product of NDS Studio design, NDS Snowflake is a UI framework that can be adapted to any customer brand.

Customer deployment: ZON

3D TV

With operators and consumers aware that 3D is fast approaching, NDS is constantly evaluating and experimenting how to bring the best possible 3D experience to pay-TV platforms by examining how EPG graphics, fonts, video subtitles and trick modes work with 3D content, as well as the impact of screen scaling on the viewing experience.

Over-the-Top and Connected devices

NDS Service Delivery Platform

Marrying Digital TV with OTT, the NDS Service Delivery Platform (SDP) is a fully scalable platform that enables TV operators to extend their offering to companion devices through third-party applications. The NDS SDP provides an open application programming interface (API) that acts as an interface between applications on devices, a service provider’s TV platform and social networks or other internet content. Providing a standard web services interface, the SDP enables the development of a limitless number of applications to complement or control the TV viewing experience.

As examples of applications made possible through the NDS SDP, NDS will be showcasing two applications:

Application example: Publishing on Companion Devices

The publishing demonstration shows a digital version of an operator’s Subscriber Magazine on a companion device, the user can browse through the TV Magazine content just as they would with the print version but can also interact with the content and tune to the relevant channel, flick video and /or images from the device to the TV and perform remote DVR recordings.

Application example: iPad DVR

The second application example enables the use of the iPad to view and remotely control the DVR, with functionality such as booking to record programming and the ability to recommend content to friends.

NDS InfiniteTV™

NDS InfiniteTV™ is an open platform for over-the-top delivery, processing and monetisation of content that incorporates widgets and applications into a unified user experience across multiple devices. It enhances the value proposition for content providers and Consumer Electronics (CE) manufacturers by providing them with a mutually beneficial framework.

Advanced Applications

NDS will showcase a broad selection of technologies that provide advanced functionality for the pay-TV platform. The demonstrations range from those that provide additional functionality through MediaHighway set-top box software to more advanced proof of concept demonstrations that look at areas such as social networking and providing value-added entertainment in developing markets.

Advanced functionality enabled by MediaHighway

Enabled by future-proof MediaHighway set-top box software, a selection of exciting technologies that operators are able to deploy either on launch or as additional features will be on display including, video on demand (VOD) with progressive download (PDL), global search functionality and DVR Lite, the solution that enables a zapper box to be transformed into a DVR with an external disk.

Customer deployment: Kabel Deutschland

Kabel Deutschland in Germany recently launched a quad-tuner hybrid HD DVR, which boasts a user interface with remarkably fast navigation. The platform is enabled by NDS MediaHighway® set-top-box software with NDS DVR technology, NDS VideoGuard® conditional access (CA), and an NDS designed Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) which was developed in close collaboration with Kabel Deutschland.
