Wenzhou Cable Enhances TV Viewing with China’s First HD Overlay EPG from NDS
- Wenzhou Cable selects NDS EPG Framework and advanced MediaHighway® set-top box software; providing the framework for an enhanced High Definition overlay electronic programme guide

BEIJING, CHINA — March 23, 2011 – NDS, the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV, today announced that Wenzhou Cable, a branch of China Cable Network, have selected NDS EPG Framework to deploy an enhanced and adaptable high definition overlay EPG – the first of its kind in China. The two-way HD platform will be secured by market-leading VideoGuard® Conditional Access and powered by NDS’ advanced MediaHighway set-top box software which is already present in Wenzhou Cable HD interactive STBs and has proven extremely successful in the market.
Already deployed in more than 171 million devices worldwide, NDS MediaHighway provides a flexible and powerful platform for the deployment of sophisticated two-way applications. NDS set-top box software is memory efficient and supports the deployment of new EPG updates and interactive applications without STB software downloads. Supporting both SD and HD platforms, MediaHighway is pre-integrated with security from NDS to enable seamless upgrade for services such as encrypted VOD content.
The NDS designed EPG to be deployed at Wenzhou Cable is intuitive and easy-to-use. It will enable subscribers to easily navigate TV content and services such as catch-up TV, Video-on-Demand (VOD), DVR programming and interactive applications including games and informational services. NDS EPG Framework gives Wenzhou Cable the flexibility to deploy different EPG themes and enable dynamic updates for individual subscribers.
Based on the deployment of NDS set-top box software at Wenzhou Cable, the two companies will continue to collaborate to develop further interactive solutions, providing subscribers with additional value-added services to increase the competitiveness of the platform when adapting to three networks convergence.
