Server-Based Security

Server-based Content Protection for Two-way Networks

As part of our commitment to on-going investment in next generation security solutions, NDS has implemented unique functions in many leading third party decoder chipsets to secure pay-TV services. VideoGuard Server™ (VGS) utilises the features in these chipsets to provide a scalable solution designed for telcos “always on” networks. This is ideal for both broadband IP and digital cable platforms that can rely on headend-based content security for live broadcast and on-demand pay-TV services.

Comprehensive IP STB security

VGS supports a wide range of revenue-generating pay-TV business opportunities, including:

  • Subscription services
  • VOD—utilising session-based encryption and pre-encryption
  • DVR—client or server-based; supporting standard and enhanced features
  • Secure content transfer to CE devices

VideoGuard Server’s security features are controlled and managed directly from the operator’s headend to the set-top box (STB) and DVR. This avoids the need for smart cards in the STB and enables the use of lower priced STBs. Security is maintained by dividing the hardware security elements between the headend and STB while harnessing the power of the network. VGS utilises security features built into many of the most popular STB decoder chipsets, such as Broadcom, Sigma, ST, and Trident. This combination is ideal for two-way IP and cable networks—both large and small.

VGS is available as a stand-alone content protection system which can be integrated with selected system integrators and middleware vendors, or as part of a complete end-to-end NDS IPTV broadband solution.
